In this case, no doubt you would rather be lucky than good. However, for Thomas Baldrick, luck was realistically his only option. This is because when he had the rare opportunity to meet Pope John Paul II during his Philadelphia visit, anyone you asked would tell you he was far from good. Being brutally honest, he was a typical teenager at the time. Check that, he got in more than trouble than the typical teen or two or maybe even five. Simply put, the only good in life he was in hot pursuit of then was having a good time.

As you will hear whether you watch or listen to this podcast episode of Binge with Baldrick, Thomas had no business being in the unfathomable position to “Say Hello” to Pope John Paul II. None. Zero. Not a prayer.

The odds of Baldrick having this chance meeting with the pontiff were only slightly better than him meeting Taylor Swift that morning.

When you consider the fact Taylor wasn’t even born in 1979, you get the point. It was more than a moonshot.

Pope John Paul II Philadelphia

It was a busy day in Philadelphia for leader of Catholics around the world. He had quite a schedule. He would make an important early morning visit to the Shrine of St. John Neumann. That afternoon, he would be celebrating mass in front of more than a million people , excited just to be in the massive crowd and hear his voice.

As for one out of sorts student, his morning had already gone to hell. Not exactly a scenario you would expect for bumping into the Holy Father. Oh, but it happened.

If Thomas Baldrick was surprised, and the Pope himself was surprised, you might be surprised as well.

At the very least, you should feel entertained by this story whether you are Catholic, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, or not affiliated with any religion. And, if you are waiting or hoping on a miracle in your life, this special episode 2 of the new podcast, Binge with Baldrick, proves anything is possible.
