No. Tony Blount is not just any Vietnam Combat Veteran. Furthermore, this is not just any Vietnam Veteran interview. Unless you fought in the Vietnam War, chances are this real and equally raw conversation will open your eyes and blow your mind. Keep in mind, war is not pretty and this one may have been as brutal and ugly as it gets. Tony describes his role as a “grunt.” He fought on the front lines of the war outside of Da Nang, Vietnam. He was wounded in a battle a couple times. However, like all others, the amount of trauma he witnessed could never be measured or counted.
This is a story of a good man in Cheney, Washington creating a heaven on earth after going through hell in the Vietnam War. It makes for a special Veterans Day 2025 episode of the new Binge with Baldrick podcast. Note: The previous episode last week features another powerful Vietnam Veteran story. It features about U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant Robin Bartlett. At just 22-years-old, he was assigned to lead a platoon in helicopter combat assaults during the heaviest fighting in the Vietnam War.
Host Thomas Baldrick hopes to help Tony Blount with the legacy the 77-year-old U.S. Marine is building every day in the Greater Spokane region of Eastern Washington.
Golden Wings Mobile Pet Pantry
Tony Blount and his late wife, Amy (a U.S. Air Force Veteran) were sweethearts for more than 50 years. Together they founded the Golden Wings Mobile Pet Pantry just before Christmas 2022. The mission began with an urgent call from a Cheney, Washington veterinarian asking Tony to rescue 8 cats in frigid winter conditions at the time. This was because their deaf and blind owners had just been evicted from their apartment. Against all odds and expectations, Tony got the job done. From there, the nonprofit rescue organization designed to feed dogs and cats has continued to grow and expand.
Today, the Golden Wings Mobile Pet Pantry and the West Plains Angels are doing more than feeding hungry cats and dogs in Cheney, Washington. They are now working with other wonderful organizations in the Greater Spokane area. Most recently, Tony has joined forces with Eastern Washington food banks and the Little Free Pantry organization in Spokane. Instead of getting the “short end of the stick,” now pet food is available for the people in need. He has also gotten both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts troops to reap the rewards of helping pets and the people who love them.
Feeding Dogs, Cats, and Humans
Even more good has come because of how the food banks have embraced the Golden Wings Pet Pantry. They have begun arming Tony and his teammates with food to help the owners of the challenged pets. Naturally, it makes sense this mission goes full circle. Therefore, Tony Blount and his fellow angels are providing food to those pet owners themselves.
So please, do more than watch this episode. Share it with veterans and pet lovers you know. We also invite you to share it in social media. No doubt, Tony Blount has a story worth knowing.
