This is a trick question. Have you ever thought about how long a 90 second video can last? If you have a beating human heart, it seems highly unlikely to just hit STOP with the video, “Children of Addiction – Breaking Cycles Healing Hearts.”
Before we go any further, have you seen the full video? No worries if you haven’t yet. It was only produced and posted two days ago. Click on this link to watch the video.
Now you know the point of the trick question. Obviously, I am referring to the impact such a video can have on you. Over 12,000 people have watched it on various social media platforms. I don’t know how hard they were hit by the messaging. However, I can speak for myself.
Breaking Cycles Healing Hearts Project
A client recruited me for his unique 3-day philanthropy team project. The title was “Breaking Cycles Healing Hearts.” His pitch in recruiting me was, “because you have a passion for this kind of thing.” He was right. I do have my fair share of soft spots. Among them are worthwhile causes involving children, mental health, and addiction. Their goal of benefiting families of addiction encompasses all three for me.
Seeking my ideas, I strongly made two suggestions. We needed a video. Plus, I was aware of the National Association for Children of Addiction (NaCoA). Perhaps, it was worth my taking a run at them to see if they would work with us. I’m grateful they were willing.
As for the video, the impact hit me right away as I began writing the script.
Families of Addiction Video
Because I know families of addiction, my heart opened quickly. I thought of all the ways a parent who is or has battled addiction can impact their loved ones. However, this Breaking Cycles Healing Hearts project didn’t have time for that. We needed to get right to the point.
The best way to do this was share the recent clinical study results. If someone first wanted to know there was a problem worth fighting, this was the answer. This study showed 1 in 4 children in America were living with a parent who has a substance use disorder.
Oh my.
Despite the fact I knew of the problem, the number was mind numbing to me. Furthermore, the newly released results were from a 2023 clinical study. We all know the addiction in America crisis has gotten worse, not better in the past two years.
So here I am, two days later. The Breaking Cycles Healing Hearts project has ended, yet I still cannot get over it. What say you?
